Evia is the second largest Greek island in area and population, after Crete. The narrow Evripos Strait separates it from Boeotia in mainland Greece. Overall this is a long and narrow, seahorse-shaped island is about 150 kilometers (93 miles) long and varies in width from 50 km (31 miles) to 6 km (3.7 miles). General direction is from the northwest to the southeast, and shifts the entire length by a mountain range, which is part of the chain that limits Thessaly to the east, and continued south of Euboea in the lofty islands of Andros, Tinos and Mykonos.
